The Strait of Hormuz is a narrow waterway located between Iran and Oman, and it is one of the most important chokepoints in the world. More than 20% of the world's oil passes through this waterway, making it a critical strategic location. On April 30th, 2023, tensions escalated in the Strait of Hormuz when a Panamanian-flagged vessel, the MV Falcon, was seized by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). According to Iranian officials, the ship was carrying smuggled goods, including weapons and ammunition, and was not complying with international shipping regulations.
